Wellness

Holistic wellness may mean different things to different people. For some, it may simply mean being in shape, being fit and loosing the excess weight. For others it may mean having great energy, getting the right amount of sleep, or having a great community that loves and supports them. And yes all this is relevant to wellness!

For a long time, I also equated wellness to fitness only, not realizing I was neglecting other aspects of my well-being. I’ve come to learn how easily Wellness can be misunderstood or shall I say interchanged with fitness. Holistic wellness is far beyond fitness and is more than health too. Fitness addresses the physical aspect of wellness, the surface level stuff…being in good shape, losing weight which will naturally lead to feeling “better” so totally get this view point! 

However holistic wellness encompasses more than just the physical, wellness is the physical, internal and often sub aspects of the Self. Holistic wellness is the interconnection of everything to that has to do with the Self, that is mind, body, soul & spirit (regardless of order of preference here).

On the surface you can appear to be fit and healthy but on an emotional and perhaps even spiritual level there may be more under the surface that need to be addressed, healed and released in order to achieve optimal health. 

The important thing to understand is that we are whole beings, multi-dimensional on all levels! So attending to one aspect of our being, while neglecting the other parts will never fully serve us. 

Understanding this for me personally, is exactly what drew me to holistic wellness because I was in desperate need of emotional well-being. Many who are aligned with all aspects of themselves may also agree. However for far  too many, figuring out where to start can be a daunting step to take. I often hear comments  like who wants to “deal” with their issues? no one wants to deal with all that! 

Yes it’s seemingly easier to sweep emotions and feelings under the rug and keep them there, suppressed for life. But that only leads to more resentment, anger, emotional toll and the list goes on…So I am here to share that we don’t have to keep suffering in silence, in fact we don’t have to suffer at all! I think the power of holistic wellness can help create a balanced flow between the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being. The mind/body/soul/spirit connection is one that needs to be nurtured on a consistent basis. And yes it may seem like “work” not denying that! But it doesn’t have to be hard. As long as we’re willing to be open, and committed to prioritizing well-being, this journey can be life changing and the most rewarding journey one can embark on. I invite you to give yourself the gift of going on this journey for your betterment. WHY you may wonder? 3 powerful words: inner peace, joy & fulfillment!

Exactly why I think holistic wellness is vital to every human-being on this planet.
